Several
low lying areas in the city have been inundated in flood waters. Water logging
has been reported from almost every corner of the city. People have been forced
to leave their vehicles and take shelter. The
road was inundated in knee deep water for more than 5 hours before the water
receded into the drains.
Traffic was choked for
more than an hour in the Purasawalkam area in the morning. There was a traffic jam on the
Medavakkam Tank Road, Purasawalkam High Road, Brick Kiln Road, Flowers Road and
Millers Road. It was chaos at the Kellys junction and the Millers
Road-Purasawalkam High Road intersection. Pedestrians
were put to great discomfort as they were forced to walk almost in the middle
of the road. Traffic from Medavakkam Tank Road towards Purasawalkam High
Road was stopped. Vans and maxi cabs were not allowed to enter Purasawalkam
High Road from the Brick Kiln Road intersection. But, Chennai and other areas of Tamil Nadu
are likely to observe a flood like situation. Low lying areas may get flooded
due to incessant rainfall. However, 5th
Avenue got inundated in knee deep water forcing pedestrians to use whatever
space was available on the pavement. Low hanging cables of service providers
and cable operators are also causing hardship to pedestrians
Ineffective
drainage systems are causing damages across the city. So much water is getting
wasted. Outflow from buildings can be saved through rain water harvesting
methods instead of instead of allowing it to reach roads and create puddles.
The roads are so bad that not a day passed without somebody falling of his or
her vehicle. Senior citizens too had slipped and fell. However some of the covers have got damaged after the
recent rains posing a risk to motorists.
