Entrance of the bookstore

Before the era of e-commerce, local independent bookstores considered as regular landscape for city residents to claim variety of books. With the invention of different digital reading devices. The internet altering the landscape of publishing and distribution, Hence it affects the business at bookstores, especially the discounts offer.

In a similar account to the new strategy, "Words & Worths" -- a local-famous independent bookstore in Besant Nagar (started 15 years ago, also sells stationery, toys and Music CD'S) has jumped in the strategic competition and for the past one week has been selling certain books at the discounted prices. They had put up close to 3,000 titles (mostly religious literature) on discount sales and these will be sold at 60 percent discount, says Balaji Venkatraman, senior customer relation manager of the bookstore.

"This is about giving away the 'dead stock'  - the books that were unsold because the publishers refused to take them back. there are two options - one is to to pulp the books or you give them away on a discount prices, we decided to do the latter. The books on sale are on varied subjects, we also have superb collection kid's stories and motivational books and also Tamil literature. And so far these sections are doing well," he adds

The employees, many of who have seen the good and the not-so-great days, believes in adopting to the situation as the ahead of the future. And the "management is thinking of different ideas. Perhaps we can set up a coffee shop  where people can sit inside and read book. We will see," say the hopeful manager.
