Chennai
heavy and not resting rain everyone in the cities. Those who
own places cannot sell those who
want to buy has nothing
to spend on.
“This
stock is new but everyone complains it expensive” Sagetha ma said. She own a local shop in Karipathur whre she vendors in
vegetable. She explained thatall
vegetable has inclined with more than 30% , tomatoes which were Rs,30.00 a kg are now sold at Rs, 100:00.
It a
big challenge for her as well, the customers has to compromise she cannot
afford to lower her price to because the wholesale price has gone to
high in an eye blink.
Chennai
city is still flooded,
to an extend that vendors with
no shopping area have no space to sell
their items. In facts, it is not only
the space is occupied which is problem but even customers are locked up in their houses. The movement of people has become extremely
less which has affected the demand of side road vendors.
“No
one will go in the rain to look for a side road fruit” Mr. Sukhumi who drove a rickshaw from Navollur to
neighbour place said he did not have stock for three weeks now. He added that even if he has there is no way he
could sell his items because of the unpredictable rain and the water around the
roads.
“We
find it hard to survive, our families depend on this business” Mr Sukhumi said disillusioned. He further stated that it hard to also make
money for a new stock when one has been in a loss for such a period of
time.
To
answers whether he had raised the issues with local authorities/institution helping floods
victims he said , so far his family
like few other had receive food but
it is no enough for a man livings.
For three weeks in a raw, the rain continues
pouring robbing some off their markets while providing others with the best
weather of Chennai city.
