Nethrodaya is a social
service organization working for the welfare of the visually impaired. Chennai has many
organizations serving for the differently abled. But Nethrodaya stands unique
in their holistic approach to the empowerment of persons with disabilities .It has got the sanction
from the State and Central Governments to start a college for visually impaired
persons. Its new venture ‘Nethrodaya College of Special Education’ will
function out of Nethrodaya’s premises. It offers a free 1-year ‘B. Ed – Special
Education’ program for visually impaired persons.
Any graduate with 50% or
more marks can apply. Students hailing from villages will be given priority and
food and accommodation will be provided free to them. Preference will be given
for women candidates. The course is recognized by Tamilnadu Teachers Education
University. Admissions are in progress and the course will commence shortly.
Application forms can be collected from Nethrodaya between 10 am and 4 pm.
Nethrodaya has appealed to retired teachers, college professors, qualified
housewives and senior citizens to volunteer for teaching its blind students. They are allowing people
to Share their vision
for a few hours by providing reading services, guiding them in everyday activities.
We can also Volunteering services for special events. People can also celebrate
their special Occasions like Birthday, Marriage Anniversaries and other special
events with the inmates of Nethrodaya by donating food. Their vision and
mission is Creation
of a suitable environment for nurturing the abilities and talents of the
visually impaired by means of which they would be able to live their lives with
a sense of dignity and self worth as productive members of society .To light up
the path of the visually impaire3d by enabling the fulfillment of their true
potential. All the services offered to the visually impaired and other
differently abled community in Tamil Nadu, India are completely free of cost.
Nethrodaya has been successfully rendering its services since its inception on
2nd October 2002.Nethrodaya has been serving as a bridge between the
differently abled community and Government of Tamilnadu which paved the way for
speedy implementation of various welfare measures and employment opportunities
for the differently abled community.
