Indians by birth, Nomads by record

Chennai, 17 August 2015: Legally born as an Indian citizen but exist as  Nomads for the past 50 years by the Tamil Nadu government record.

Though Indian citizenship has not given to them, they are been forced to relocate their living from the State government with no compensation. The complainant referred was that people are being harassed by the policemen around T.Nagar. 

These nomads residing in T.Nagar don’t get any of the government offerings as there is no legal residential proof. Even education is avoided for them as they are Nomads. None of the government officers had taken the step to eradicate this issue in the past 5 decades.

The only step taken by government officials was to conduct a meeting along with them in Ribbon building that too once in a while. But the change never happened to them.

Along with Tamil nomads people from Srilanka also reside with them. It was the former M.G.Ramachandran’s period they shifted to Chennai as nomads. Those nomads still preserve their passports without the awareness of renewal.

From late 1970’s they reside in platforms with no home, and moved from place to place as a way of obtaining food, finding pasture for livestock, and for making a living. They work in few offices as sweepers and as housekeepers to manage their life.
