Enchanting beach sides and the captivating stone artworks and remains of Pallava dynasty makes the place popular among the tourists especially foreign tourists. This destination is filled with attractive resorts and cottages makes it a beautiful evening spot. Creativity through stone caves is an amazing scene of mahabalipuram. All of these were done centuries back. Arjuna’s penanace, Five Rathas, Shore temple are the major attractions of the sight. It is believed that in Arjuna’s penance cave, Arjuna worshipped Shiva for penance. Other monument Five Rathas were dedicated to pancha pandavas of mahabharatham. The big rock carving of bullock, elephant and lion is an amazing sight. Shore temple is an ancient temple which is destructed, even the remains shows the past glory of Mahabalipuram, which was the second capital of Pallava dynasty,  kanchipuram was the main capital of the dynasty. The beach of mahabalipuram is very clean and beautiful compared to Marina beach of Chennai. The long beach side gives a refreshment feeling to anyone who visits the place.”Mahabalipuram is so nice, this is the second time I am visiting here because I am interested in the culture and arts of India” opined Catherine, a foreigner. Apart from this, handicrafts shops are other major attraction of the area. Handicrafts displayed ranges from hundreds to crores which is a pleasure for eyes of the visitor. Just like anyother tourism spot, Mahabalipuram is also filled with lots of shops, commodities with high price tags. The nuisances created by beggars and dogs are a big problem of the area which reduces the attraction of this ancient city.
